A fragrant spice used to flavour broth, marinades, and in baking. Ground Star Anise has a mild liquorice flavour with subtle herbaceous notes and is made by grinding the seeds of a star-shaped pod from an evergreen tree native to Vietnam and China. It's used to flavour liqueurs such as pastis, sambuca and absinthe. It's an essential ingredient in Masala Chai in India, and in the traditional broth for Pho. Use it to flavour marinades for pork chops or chicken. Add it to baking in ginger cookies, muffins or to flavour baked apples.
